Commitments aren't promises. They're resource allocations that protect capacity. A commitment reflects a priority when it reserves time, assigns budget, or guards energy BEFORE other demands arrive. Without that allocation, identified priorities compete for whatever remains—surplus time, surplus money, surplus energy that rarely materializes.

Research on implementation intentions shows that pre-committing specific times and contexts for goal pursuit dramatically increases follow-through. The gap between knowing what matters and doing what matters narrows when resources are allocated in advance, not when motivation peaks.
